Celebrating 20 years since graduating with my Diploma from the Shiatsu College in Auckland!

Shiatsu in Australia

I recently attended a workshop in Australia with Master Nagai from Japan. Sixty students from around Australia (and one from NZ!) plus some students from Japan, joined together for the Shiatsu Association of Australia's annual retreat.

Master Nagai has limited English, so he spent much of his time giving us Shiatsu treatments to demonstrate a technique which he developed himself after many years of research and Shiatsu practice. It involves bone warming and bone vibrating, and is very gentle and enjoyable to receive. This was completely new to us and I look forward to using it with my clients.

Most of the teaching was done by one of his teachers, who doubled as interpreter when required. It was the first time they had taught outside of Japan.

We also had a demonstration of traditional Japanese sword fighting.

Here I am with the swordsman.
